I've been meaning to go meet/interview Bill Greenway at Indian rocks tackle to interview him and scan all his shark fishing pictures and write the history of the many big sharks caught on the old Indian Rocks fishing pier. This is a project I've had in mind for the last two years, to document that deep land-based shark fishing history from Florida's west coast (Naples to indian Rocks beach) so that what was accomplished back in shark fishing's heyday will not fade away into oblivion.Another is to document the land-based shark fishing history of the panhandle and for that I will be collaborating with Ernie Polk and Rody Pate. Many plans are in the works but they all take time, money and effort.
As far as the great whites being hooked from the old Indian Rocks pier I had never heard that but am very interested in learning the details.
History will be made

Sounds fun. Can ya fish off the beach or is there too many rocks? If they are seeing them the next trick is to learn what they are eating. Probaly porpus or tuna. The long lining industry devistated the shark pop there by way of bi catch while sword and tuna fishing, the same way they did the panhandle. maybe enough years of regulated comercial fishing has done some good. Cant wait to see the pics.

i am surprised it hasn't happened i remember back in 1984 when i was commercial fishing out of ponce inlet one of the shark boats got a little one 8 or 9 feet i think less than a mile out is what they told me.stands to reason if its that close they will come to the beach.
bill greenway at indian rocks beach bait and tackle use to hook great whites all the time when they could fish off indian rocks beach
Are you not allowed to fish from IRB anymore? We were just fishing down there a few weeks ago and didn't have any problems from anyone, nor are there any signs. Do you know around what area he fished? We fish right off 6th-8th ave with no problems.
