Who said florida dont have big bucks.
Well while yall was fishing the start up tourny I was hunting. Look at the pics and everyone will understand why i missed the tourny. I would rather have a little luck than a lot of skill. The 6 point was killed while scrubing the morning at 7:00. the white horned 8 was that same evening at 5:15 from a tree stand. the next morning I killed the big 8 at 7:00 while walking. I saw him cross a road to far to shoot so i got ahead of him at the crossing that i figured he would cross next. as i walked over the hill where i was gona wait, the buck got up about 70 yards away. I shot him while he was at a hard run. Hit him in the neck, piled his but up. This is probaly the biggest buck i have ever shot. It is rare to kill a buck like this in florida. I only know of one other buck that is bigger from this area. notice the thickness of the hornes. The bigun was 18" wide with 8" tines. The smaller 8 was what most people would mount if killed in florida. I have probaly close to 20 that size and was wondering if i would ever get one bigger. I have been primarly a dog hunter since i was a kid, most i have killed has been on the fly and that is where the skill sets me apart from the normal stand hunter. the normal stand hunter could not have made the shot. Killed on public land in florida!

The water management area and the blackwater state forest. The bigun weighed 175lbs and the white horned 8 weighed 160lbs. the big 8 was over 5 years old. I usually keep most of what i kill unknown to the people that hunt the area because they will hunt me instead of the deer. I dont post on local forums and i dont leave pics at the local stores. I try to keep the pressure down. If every one thinks there is no big bucks here they wont be in my way. I have a big family that all hunts and they know just because ya hunt where i do dont mean ya gona kill what i do so i tell them what i kill and exactly where i kill it, as for the rest of the hunters they gona have to hunt for themselvs. I grew up and hunted around here all my life. I know where every crossing is and have figured out why they cross there. I have looked at this bucks scrape from when he was just a spike all the way till now and probaly have seen him a number of times. I track the roads every time i hunt and I figure that gives me an idea where they go. if i see a buck i track the roads until i find where it crossed out, so i sit where i can see a long way and when i see it cross a second time i go to where i found his track the last time. It is no shure fire trick but sometimes it pays off big.
