Which reel is better?
Yeah those Avet reels are pretty good. That 2 speed is the only way to go if ya ant gona get a senator. I have rode mine hard and put it away wet and sandy. Needless to say it isnt as sand tollorant as a senator. Mine took a dive into the water and got drug across the bottom. Yeah a fish took it but we ran it down. Afterwords Sean caught a 6.5' bull on it. I took it apart and cleaned it the next day. Keep in mind that alluminum corodes. when the paint gets rubed off it rots. The clicker isnt loud when the spool is full of line. Sand always gets to the alluminum. Where is a carbon fiber reel? I have also found that fishing braid off the beach is expensive. My 80w has 800yds of 150lb braid and 300yds of dacron on the top. The 80w bairly is big enough to do what i want. It is like a 12/0. If i were buying just for the beach i would buy a 130w. The abaility to hold larger line like 200lb mono for when ya fishin around rocks. A larger reel will let ya keep that expensive braid out of the water and let ya fish with whatever line ya need to fish with. New wave is cool and looks good but it will not be here in operational working order in 30 years of use. The 12/0 my Grandfather bought in 1960 is still working and being used.

Just use a big fat heavy sand bag and things will work better
If price is no object, definitely go with the two speed. The low gear makes a huge difference when reeling in a big fish, or if your sand bag doesn't break off when reeling your bait in

I have both avet and penn brand reels and they both can take a beating pretty good but an American made penn is the reel I see having a much longer life. I have a smaller avet and don't know if this is the same for the larger avet reels but what is with that garbage they made the clicker gear out of? It gets grinded down just from regular use, it looks like it is made of something along the lines of cheap plastic and it gets grinded down by the click tooth which is made of a much harder material. I put small dabs of epoxy putty over the areas that are worn down and when it dries out it is much harder than the original material and the clicker is much louder now than it was even when the reel was new.
Avet supports land based sharkfishing. They donate 1000$ reels to the BHC. I think that is deserving of second look. New alluminum reels are like an M16 rifle compared to the penn senator is the AK 47.
