My dad always tells me the story of when he was surf perch fishing and his set up broke off. Later that day he came back and started fishing again. He caught his old setup with two big perch on both hooks.
Also I once had a trout in the backyard that was big, so for a week every night I would fish for him with 2 lb line so he wouldn't see it. Every night I broke him off (2lb is just to freakin small) finally on the 7th night I switch to 6 lb. I hook up like normal, but bet a tangle. So I hand lined this 18" trout in. Once I opened him up I found all 7 of my hooks there.
I also caught a shark with a hook in it mouth once.
My son had a monster bass like this on the other day and we lost it on a bench that was in the water. The lake is still flooded in the back so trees and benches & bird baths are in the lake lol. Huge bass in the grass in the backyard right up next to the pool. We hooked him on a live Crawfish with a bobber. The bass is swimming around with the bobber still attached
kinda like the movie jaws.

Yeah you should have snagged the bobber,that BASS your friend caught ,did he keep it or throw it back? It would probably put alot of weight on after spawning ,
