Ive been looking around and just can't make up my mind between a used senator 16/0, avet 80w, and avet t-rx 50w. Help me out, I'm open to other things also these are just the three I seem to like so far. I fish 400-600 yards of beaches like st. Pete and Clearwater

Have you thought of a used Penn International 130? I don't know much about them but you can probably find a good deal, get capacity of 16/0 in a lever drag.

I've thought about it, there good reals from what ive heard. i like my Penn 80w a lot its a possibility kinda hard to find unless ur gonna buy a newer one then its like 700 bucks. i know i can get the avets at wholesale which is why i'm leaning towards them

Avets at wholesale....get one of each!

Get an 80W, hit it with 500 or 600 yards of braid/spectra and then fill to the top with mono.

I just wish Avet made the 80w with that trx quad drag cause the trx 50w has over 100lbs of drag while the pro ex 80w has a little over 50 so im wondering if its a good compromise to give up line capacity for drag power

The TRX is nuts but it is a 50W, right? If your drops are 400-600 yards out, get the 80W with the 65lbs of drag. Give yourself some room for a fight when the monster comes. You dont want a big fish pulling the hook out when you lock up 100lbs of drag early in the fight. (not to mention you will need a wooden lounge chair to place the rod against LOL)
The guys on boats, bridges, and boca grande, love those TRX's but capacity is not the concern.

I use my 14/0 with an extra steel washer and an extra HT100 in there. The last two sharks I got on the 14/0 (7ft fat female bull and 8ft-ish fat female lemon) didnt pull any drag. The reel wasnt even locked down. In its current set up, the reel probably has a max drag at 50LBS.

Keep in mind: 10-11ft hammers are caught on 9/0's. You do not have to have 100 lbs of drag. In your area it sounds like you need capacity, just for the drop.

You can find a nice chrome spool 14/0 or a black aluminum spool 14/0. They started making black spool reels again. I have seen the new in box ones for $450 on ebay.

The old chrome spool reels can be found on ebay, craigslist and even here in the forums.

They will range from $250 - $500, varying on condition. I sold a 14/0 for $500 on eBay last month. One week earlier the same reel sold for $305 but we cxd the auction.

I have seen a few listings on craigslist for the 16/0's for $600 which I think is too high but I have seen them go for more on eBay so what do I know. If you get a used 14/0 or 16/0, make sure it has the HT100 drag washers or get a set from penn or scott's tackle. The 16/0 is basically a 14/0 WIDE so it has the same gears and drag system. Just wider for more capacity.

If you see a reel and it has a cracked ring or the chrome is coming off in places and the brass is showing, you can always get new parts. Outer rings are about $25 each and you can get an awesome set of aftermarket stainless steel posts for $40.
