WHAT IS THIS BACTERIA BLOOM IN TAMPA BAY?
driving across the howard franklin bridge the water is brown and gross
when you get to the skyway fishing pier the water is nasty not clear like it should be so
after doing some reading on its a bactria bloom and the normal bait fish have even left now there are no macks, no grouper, no snapper and no sharks seems like they are not here normally during this part of august we got kings coming in bonita here and sting rays but this year the water has everything messege up i wish that they would open the other end of tampa bay and let some more water in here to clean up the bay here the water is cloudy and murky and nasty and i like the water but they closed the beaches up in the bay so no swimming for me lol its not red tide its just nasty tide brown nasty water they say it happens every year but i dont remember it and i have been here 4 years going on 5
any one got any ideas?

It is listed as a bloom but not red tide.Started around the end of June.At that time was just in and around hwy60(clearwater to tpa)Then in July added the Howard Franklin area to the mix.August it continued out to Gandy Bridge area and I guess now it has reached the Skyway area.It is just in big spots and there is still good water around it but no fish inside it.Also if you run thru it in a boat with your bait well on it will kill your bait. Also this is not the reason they close the causeway beaches, that is from the run off water that dumps into the bay and brings bacteria with it.It does look bad,I drive bye it every day during the week.....Live in tpa and work around the st. pete airport...dave m
