I have to agree with you guys it’s not the same Florida that all the great land based shark fisherman fished back many years ago from fishing Delray beach I was told that will end soon and a few beaches on the east and west coast of Florida are banning shark tournaments and shark fishing from beach fishing a lot has to do with the people on vacation don’t want to know about the 9 foot bull shark that was caught at the beach they are swimming on today and if you get the media involved in any shark clubs someone out there will stop shark fishing we live in a few country right whatever free pffffft I don’t think so.,,,,,, All i want to do is go back in time and and fish with the shark fishing greats of all time were you dont have all the b.s. you got today!!!!
I have also found out that since a lot of tourist have stop coming due to the poor state of our economy!
I search the internet everyday to see what kind of new laws Florida has passed for our land based shark fisherman.
One report: Shark fishing has some county officials concerned
LEE COUNTY: A plan is currently in the works to stop all shark fishing from the pier on Fort Myers Beach. Officials say they do not feel comfortable having fishermen attracting sharks so close to where people are swimming. But until an ordinance goes into effect, there is not much they can do.
Seasonal resident Janet Fahnestock says she sees people getting around the rules quite often. It bothers her, but she knows it is bound to happen.
"It's fun to pull them in; you can't blame anyone for wanting to pull a shark in," said Fahnestock. "What can you say? Rules are made to be broken. That's how everybody thinks."
Lee County officials do not like the fact people are pulling in sharks either. But at the moment, no one seems to be able to do much about it.
Signs are in place prohibiting shark fishing. But while they are clearly posted citing a Lee County ordinance, the ordinance has not been approved yet. That leaves officers with Parks and Recreation and FWC powerless.
"It's not in place in definitive ways that a law enforcement officer can say, 'You have violated this park ordinance,'" said John Yarborough of Lee County Parks and Recreation.
County officials are updating the ordinance to point out specific hook sizes, bait, and fishing methods that will be allowed. But until the ordinance actually goes into effect, the signs are only a deterrent.
One of the reasons county officials want to stop shark fishing is because of all the people swimming near the shore. After a 350 pound shark was caught last year, officials do not want to risk anyone getting bitten.
"The last thing we really want is for someone to be attracting sharks to where people are swimming," said Yarborough.
But there are some people who don't like the enforcement.
"If a person wants to catch a shark, let them catch a shark," said Fort Myers Beach resident Bill Petrillo.
The first public hearing on the issue takes place on December 12.
NBC news ft Myers
And as I search future today about shark fishing from the beach a lot of cities have passed the same laws:
The Orange Beach City Council voted at their work session Monday to adopt an emergency resolution banning shark fishing along the immediate coastline. Council members have been discussing the issue for the past few months, after shark fishermen were spotted "chumming" near a public pier.
"We're also concerned about this following the shark attacks in Florida over the weekend and in California last week," says Orange Beach Mayor Pete Blalock. "Sharks draw sharks and if you're chumming, you're drawing in more sharks. It just doesn't need to happen right near the coastline. What we're saying is to get a boat and go do it out in the Gulf."
The city council will formally vote on the shark fishing ban at next week's council meeting. If approved, shark fishing, baiting and chumming will be illegal within 300 feet of the coastline. City leaders will work with state officials in enforcing the ban.
"The Gulf is state water," says Blalock. "We've actually approved this emergency resolution sent to us by the state. We're trying to have little teeth in our law down here to tell people you can't do this here."
Since article was published the ordinance has been approved and passed, the ordinance is in effect so watch out other counties in Florida we are next!!!!!!!

hell is your allowed to do it 300 feet off the beach they really cant say anything because we drop are baits atleast 150 to 200 yards off the beach

but they can say whatever they want

i hate it that people think that we are attracting the sharks to the beach they dont understand that the sharks are already there

i think what did the real damage was the movie jaws

you know everyone out there thinking thats sharks are just blood thirsty killing machines

but its crap this isnt the land of the free

this is land of the locked down

Yep that sucks being cuff! We fish Ft.Myers Beach etc etc and have been warned for open cans of brewski but not sharkin, I have warned my buddies not to show off their big 14/0 reels during the daytime and to set up during dusk then bring out the guns,we have to put up with stupid questions from tourist etc etc. As for Ft.Myers Beach Pier some idiot caught a 9ft lemon two or three years ago and decided to get the media involved after that 14 year old boy died from the bull shark attack in the panhandle. My Advice to sharkers is keep a LOW Profile of what you are doing, when people asked what we are fishing for? We say Tarpon,Goliath Grouper etc and that's usually the end of it!!!Hope this helps and watch out for the condo commandos, these rich shits think they own the beach! Sorry it's public access.Good luck, hope this helps!
