A buddy of mine has one (not sure on which size) and he has 30lb braid on it and he got worked by a 30lb stingray for like an hour, this reel didnt have the torque to crank it in. Decent reel though for the money as he has fished it for over a year and it still looks pretty good and catches fish. He does rinse it after every use though, but is a pier fisher so is tough on his reels.
Those reels are a good concept but made with cheap materials and don't last
For what was designed for, these reels do a great job - let's not forget that the mass customers for WaltDisney Company - are kids.
For an experienced fisherman, that uses spinning reels for years, they lean towards reliability rather then casting distance. Fin-Nor Offshore series are one of the best for the buck designed reels, when comes to beat the heck out of them in sand. If you want Swiss type reels, super smooth and same crazy drags, go with daiwa Saltiga SATG6500H, but be ready to pay big bucks, way more then you would typically pay for an Avet 80w brand new.
In my personal opinion, in the surf, Fin-Nor Offshore OFS9500 has the BEST and LOUDEST spool clicker that you can find on a spinning reel and THE BIGGEST SPOOL CAPACITY in spinning reel class. For around $180 its hard to beat. This reel is not recommended for jigging for - say - cobia - it doesn't have infinite anti-reverse, but will give you 60lb drag (has two sets of drag top/bottom spool) vs daiwa Saltiga SATG6500H 66lb, which is only 6lb difference, but WAY BIGGER spool capacity and louder clicker.
There is a reason why we all have different reels and rods, each they fit best for a specific style/type of fishing.
I would probably buy that WaveSpin if i'll be an bass-fisherman, since continuous casting is the style used there and this type of reel would help me to enjoy that without worrying about line tangles at the spool.
