My buddy and his girlfriend were kayaking in the keys this wknd and his girlfriend stepped on a syringe and the needle punctured her foot. The doctor told her that he wasnt real concerned since the needle was underwater at the waters edge. He said to just get tested in a few months to put her mind at ease. I know many of you fish down there so just keep this story in mind
I've found needles on the beaches down there myself, as well as lures, bottles, barbs, knives, razors, and a message in a bottle 
all sorts of stuff somehow washes up on shore in the keys. When wading the flats you also have to look out for sea urchins... that's a hospital visit.

I'm surprised that your girlfriend wasn't freaking out when she stepped on the syringe. I hope the tests come out perfect in a few months. God only knows how long it's been out there in the ocean. People who throw crap like that in the water have no respect for themselves, others, or nature. I'm diabetic & wouldn't dream of improperly disposing of used syringes.
