If I'm not mistaken...shark fishing in Vero is prohibited.

Sebastian and Sanibel are great spots. Sebastian is on the east coast with big surf and Sanibel is on the west coast with crab traps. PICK YOUR POISON.

I'm from the west coast of FL and went to Sebastian to gain a little knowledge of a new area during the BTC (Didn't fish it). Me and my 2 buddies who fish over here were a little more than frightened to try and yak anything into or near that inlet.... Off the beach is just a big surf but that inlet was intense just to look at...LOTS of bluefish caught there on 3oz silver spoons.

I frequent Sebastian Inlet area and you're right, the surf can destroy you. I've only been paddling my baits out for a year or so and have cracked a rib and broken my nose on account of those waves.

-BUT-

The payoff is big. You get your bait past that battlefield and it's a sharkers dream. All different sizes, all different species, always a decent run.

Would you say the Sebastian inlet is better than Sanibel and big carlos pass this time of year?Do you fish there a good bit in february? Also do you fish right inside the inlet or from the beach?

How far out do you have to kayak the bait?

I would follow the warmer water this time of year, but the ocean is a big place. And I have fished both the inlet and the beaches of Sebastian. You will be fine either way. If you paddle past the breaking waves, you're fine. Anything past that is good stuff.

This time of the year Sabastian/Melbourne area is better bBg Shark area because of the abundance of migratory prey in thewater ,but you have deal with the Unpredictable surf all year.Fish the inlet float out a bait on outgoing tide or fish the beaches north of the inlet and you can stay overnight without being harrased by police.Big tigers and hammers frequent those beaches if you can brave the waves.Good luck.
