just saw on the news that all of louisiana and pensecola noaa has issued a ban on fishing untill further notice recreational and commercial.. this damn oil spill is going to affect us for years to come and it isnt over yet still pooring oil in to the gulf and they say it will be for the next few months.. if it moves south guys we will be done if it gets in the gulf stream its projected to hit the keys and get into the atlantic. if it makes it to where i am im out not gona live somewhere i cant fish ill be back when i can..humans=the reason the world is going to shit.. we allow millions of gallons of oil to spill into the gulf and cant do anything to stop it,and people wonder why theres global warming or the pollution is so bad. and all of this after ernie lands a beautiful fish of a life time in the panhandle and now the beach he caught that very fish could be covered in oil anyday. its a shame but i think this is going to screw the gulf for a longtime worst oil spill in history and its only a week in they say it will be 2 months of oil pumping into the water..

It is truly heart breaking. Obama wants to put more oil rigs on the Florida coast. We better be politically involved to stop this crap or kiss our beaches goodbye. The coral reefs, sharks, porpoises, sea turtles, migratory birds, wading birds, lobsters, clams, conchs, shrimp, and game fish will all be irreparably damaged. People refer to low IQ individuals as bird brains, but even birds know enough not to dirty their own nest. I guess we have less sense than birds. :(

trees require extensive land use which is even worse than drillign for oil, plus oil is far more efficient for energy uses, the scientist who learns to harness lighting into stored energy will revolutionize the world

son do you know how many millions of acres we have to grow trees on ..and its not done the way they used to clear cut know it is managed properly .they can grow trees just like any other grove . oranges apples peaches you name it..and if you don't think there is enough land take a ride out west and see how much is going to waste ..thousands of acres here in st Lucie county that used to be orange grove or cattle ranch its all weeds now ..and evan were i hunt j.w. corbett area in palm beach county was logged for years and that is 70,000 acres .......oh and by the way how is tree farming worse than oil???????

oh and i didn't say use trees for fuel i said quite using all the oil based products like PLASTIC AND RUBBER use paper and leather products instead

The gulf regions, including Florida Panhandle, will be affected for the rest of our lives; such a beautiful part of this country. :| I honestly can't believe it's still pumping out oil.

but if the oil gets into the Gulf Stream and carries it to the beaches of Florida, it stands to be an environmental and economic disaster of epic proportions.

The Deepwater Horizon well is at the end of one branch of the Gulf Stream, the famed warm-water current that flows from the Gulf of Mexico to the North Atlantic. Several experts said that if the oil enters the stream, it would flow around the southern tip of Florida and up the eastern seaboard.

“It will be on the east coast of Florida in almost no time,” said Hans Graber, executive director of the University of Miami’s Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing. “I don’t think we can prevent that. It’s more of a question of when rather than if.”

i think we are done for guys.. they say that in 2 days it will be on destin beach and from there its just gona work its way south.. fish and enjoy the gulf as much as you can, i dont think we have long. this is going to destroy floridas economy.. no commercial or recreational fishing, oil covered beaches = no tourism which means the state is going to crash if we dont have tourism we have nothing fl runs on it. but hey all the oil company cares about is the money they loose everday not what they are doing to the world this will affect us for years and years to come.. this is yet another thing the miyan calendar has pretedicted. it says in the year 2010 the seas will turn black. they need to do something.. i say if u send a group of 200 commercial and recreational fisherman we could figure something out quicker to stop it than the scientist and other idiots will. they can build seawalls why cant they poor concrete down the pump and seal it off and well there at it seal off every other oil rig in the worlds oceans. but instead they screwed us all. im thinking costa rica or in the mountains when this gets bad i think thats where i will be heading. and all of this happens as i register for sea school to get my captains license seems kinda pointless now.   :o

Let's hope for the right weather conditions (slow wind from the south?) so not too mcuh of the blob hits shore, the cleanup people can do whatever it is they do, and it doesn't touch the stream. South winds are pretty dependable in the mid-north gulf this time of year but it's a windy year again.
Maybe things won't be that bad. I wish I believed that though. I've read that in calm seas, cleanup efforts get about 15% of the spill and that BP won't be able to even TRY capping the leak until this weekend. 210,000 gal each day.

In the previous post, sombody talked about the Mayan calendar's predictions for 2010.
THis is a practical problem, not a time to talk hocus pocus.
I'll try to contact a lab in the Big Bend area today and ask if ordinary people can help if the slick gets close or hits shore. I'll write back and tell you all how the call went, even if they don't answer or if they blow me off.
