they always do some neat stuff on that show - looks like a really cool job to tear stuff up and get paid for it !!!!!!! as far as their test goes on this particular occasion its was unique to say the least and i guess the only way they could prove or disprove this supposed myth - the reality is that the speeds they were going are just unrealistic for any fish that would ever be encountered - if im not mistaken the fastest fish in the ocean couldnt get close to the speeds they were reaching so the point was moot to say the least - my curiosity would be that after a realistic freight train run from a large hammerhead what would the condition of the drags be as far as fade and sticking - just like a cars brakes if your going 100mph and slam on the brakes to a dead stop it will take a certain amount of time - if you do it several times in a row the time is going to get progressively longer because of the braking surfaces heating up and losing their overall efficiency. this is where there is no substitute for surface area and overall efficiency. i would like to see someone test the overall efficiency of a system like star drag reels have where the braking system goes thru the same gear reduction as the spool itself - on the big senators i think it is 1.3 or 1.6 to 1 so every time that spool turns over 1 time the drag system is turning over 30%-60% more than the actual spool. you should have the best your going to get on the first run but how much does the drag fade after that is the question. good stuff though and it was amazing to see that they could get the thing to over 700 degrees !!!!!!!!!!!
An awesome display, there should be professional reel testers like the "guys of lidar" for radar detectors and laser jammers. They take donations and use all of it to test different scenarios for the devices. This would be a cool idea to test all the 130 class reels and so on. Then we would know the ideal reels for different conditions and settings.
