what do y'all think the ban was officially passed earlier today any thoughts besides the fact it is totally unfare for those of us that treat these sharks with total respect and release them unharmed to grow and reproduce. There goes everybodies chance to catch a world record in florida

not only that but just recently ive heard of people scuba diving and seeing thousands in the school hammer and tigers are in no way endangered and should not be illegal to keep ever unless their numbers diminish which i doubt but what i dont get is why they think we keep so many in the first place i maybe will keep one shark a year if that and normally its a monster and i give away meat all on the pier keep some for myself and keep the jaws but again thats maybe 1 a year and most the time its cuz they die in the surf or on the beach from fighting too long

im saying 99.9% of the sharks ive caught ive released and or tagged and released ive only kept sharks that were already dead or wouldnt swim off after walking in the shallows with them idk why they are doing this ban and making it impossible to break any record for hammers and tigers in florida and it actually bothers me because if i do catch that record "monster" shark i know i cant even get the record and or only get a pic and release which i think is BS honestly

Yeah, unfortunately about 3 out of 10 hammerheads were pulled in already dead, on J hooks. Let's not be so unaware about the fact that if you'll gonna reel in a dead hammerhead, you'll be in big trouble with FWC. Most likely they'll gonna take it as you harvesting a protected species of fish.
DO NOT BE SURPRISED that soon you'll hear people being arrested left and right because they reel in a dead hammer. Let's see how many of us will last to shark fish.
This is the beginning of the end for shark fishing in florida.
As usually, the voice of the fishermen are never heard by lawmakers, and this is why well gonna have more shark attacks then ever in the coming years. By the action of these lawmakers the balance was once again - broken.
We all know that hammerheads are the only fish that fight to the dead. By passing this ban, many of us will get in trouble - this is a catch 21 game. Let me give you another pictures of reality here - you catch the hammer, you release the hammer with the hook in the mouth, the hammer swims away, but hours later gets washed on the beach with the hooks on the side of the mouth. Meanwhile being dark you'll gonna continue fishing unaware about the previous hammer being dead on the beach 500yds away, the turtle guy with the ATV pass by 2-3am and see the hammer dead, calls in the cops, cops the FWC, they come to you where you are, and SHOW ON. Click click you go in jail.
Believe me, IF YOU KNOW HAMMERHEADS YOU KNOW THAT THE ABOVE STORY IS NOT A SiFi STORY! It's PURE REAL. IT HAPPENED, and WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!
Way to go lawmakers!!!

they are going to have to make something where if you reel in a dead hammer you call fwc and somebody will come to take it or something

Well the law is not only for harvesting meaning, you kill the fish and take it home. Is actually for killing as well.
They don't say voluntary killing or involuntary killing. They do say though, possession, killing and harvesting is second degree misdemeanor. So, calling FWC AFTER the shark is dead - good luck with that!

I personally dont harvest sharks. I am not a seafood eater but its terrible that they took away the rights of every fishermen.

Obviously there is little we can do about this now .. i assume this will be like the jew fish and they wont be taken off so they need to implement a tag system if you wanted to try for world record i would be alright with that. They also have to realize that when you catch fish.. any kind of fish they could die. When you set the hook you have no idea what i on the other end until its on the shore. They have to put something in the law that would protect anglers if a shark died while you were trying to release it.

I wont stop fishing because of this law, and i hope no one else stops either.

For thous who don't know why hammerhead dies on the way in please view this video and pay close attention between 3:50min and 4:10min.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWehW4tlyeI

With that information in mind, we can all say that even if you'll use circle hooks, still the hammerhead MAY DIE on you on the way in.

so they die from not swimming but they will still swim till they cant swim any more causing them to commit suicide.

Well they don't commit suicide. Because they are hooked, and depending on how they're fought by the fishermen if they can't swim they'll gonna drown and die, not suicide.
Hammerheads need to swim continuously in order to breath, otherwise they can't breath and die.
That's also the logical explanation why when someone hooks into a hammerhead is heck of a fight because these fish don't stay in one place, they move continuously and develop an high swimming endurance comparing to other sharks were they burn fast.

Pretty much all sharks beed to keep moving to stay alive only few can be still like nurse sand tiger and 6gill but pretty much every shark has to have water flowing thru their gills
