The walk of shame!

The weekend is here ,you have been planning the trip all week. you got fresh bait, new hooks and leaders, everything is 100%. you haul everything down to the beach, set your bait out and get ready to put some hours in.... only to have your big bait on your 16/0 get eaten and what ever is on the other end start taking drag like it is going out of style! then all of a sudden the line goes slack! you reel in to find that the shark on the other end has bitten though you 1/16 cable. so you precede to do THE WALK OF SHAME back to your truck after only 2 hours..... who here has had similar experience?

1/16 cable is 480lb rated. sounds like you need to find someone else to go shark fishing with

I use 480 cable often and always double up for the last foot and half to the hook. About any shark can get through 480 if you give it enough time.

walked 1 mile with 16 0 and gear, caught a 30lb jack walk
another mile back to the car.
drive 1 hour north walk another 1/2 mile with gear and jack.
rig up a 2 hook rig for the jack.
get rained on with freezing winds under a bridge.
get hooks in the jack.
went to put the jack over the rail and the line was wrapped on my foot.
jack get ripped off the hooks and falls into the water.
realize you have no more bait. fish for bait for 3 hours and don't catch anything but
a cold the next day.

I think we all have one really bad fishing trip that makes you want to quit.
It just makes me fish harder :D

I kept getting cable chewed through on Gandy bridge and when I switched to single strand #19 wire they closed Gandy fishing pier for good. Ive been using #19 for my big rigs and #15 for my smaller rigs. I have not been bitten off since.
Being bitten off by something huge just makes me want to go back out as soon as possible to try to get my 2nd chance! ;)
