the rescue of a couple of nurses
I was curious if anyone would be interested in helping rescue a couple of nurse sharks that are sentenced to be put to death if they cant find homes. They are located in Maryland and are trying to be saved by a group called Sea Save but the can only do so much. I thought this would be a good thing for our group to do to prove that we are into conservation of the shark species.
ok here is the problem...they are sitting at a university right now and they say that if a shark is brought into captivity then it is no longer able to be released into the wild. So when researchers are done with their test on them they euthanize them. I say this is bullshit...we bring an animal from its home into ours then when we are done with it we kill it...WTF!!!! I know some of you guys have got to feel the same way i do about this. Also did you know that Mote marine in Sarasota participates in this practice.
I understand not letting animals go if they become accustomed to being fed, but a nurse sharks eats everything it can find and I'm pretty sure they would be fine back in the wild.
They'll come down to Florida and destroy your beautiful bait and you'll go back to hating them.
What does this place want for them to be saved? Money, ride back to the water,..........they could let them go.I do not see why not? Those sharks got beat up and all kinds of 'who knows 'sh$t,even tho they are not rare, they could be one day so they should treat them like they are special and "LET THEM GO"......................
