Hello guys, thanks so much for letting me join the forum, going to join the club here soon. I moved from Kentucky to Tampa this year, I have always shark fished in South Alabama for years, now I am new to this area. With all the Causeways and Skyway pier, what would be my best bet to land my first shark in Tampa. Thanks guys 7 trips so far, not much luck using Ballon so far

For what it's worth, I like to fish the gulf pier at Fort Desoto at night. There are always swarms of greenbacks under the pier that you can use to catch spanish mackerel, bluefish or ladyfish. Bring a sabiki setup for those greenies, they outrun most cast nets. I particularly like fishing there at night because the pier lights are so bright, you can sight cast towards your next fish better than during the day.

Once you're baited up, the sharks are definitely there. In fact, I've heard over and over that this is a great location for huge sharks. If ballooning is your thing, you have plenty of tidal flow to take care of that. Casting isn't a problem either. Downsides are that dolphins will pick your hooks clean and the 11:00PM closing time.

I have fished that area also. Fort DeSoto has been great for me as well. There are a lot of areas to get bait even before going to the pier. As was said only drawback is beach closes at sunset and pier at 11 pm.

That would be the 10 cent bridge or the Tierra Verde Bridge, which is okay but I have never fished it. After it, though, just after the toll plaza, there is another smaller more secluded bridge with nice depth and good current, not so high and easy parking right at the pillars. Nice walk-way over bridge to fish middle cut. No boats. Easy access to areas to land the sharks. I've hooked into MONSTERS at this little bridge. Fished it a lot when I used to live over there. Was my go-to spot.
