i saw a picture online where it looks like they are taking down the south side of the sky way fishing pier does anyone know whats going on with it

Last time I went to the North Pier (few weeks ago) I noticed they dropped part of the side that we can no longer fish. Theres now a big gap in it at the beginning (no longer connected to land). Im sure they'll do the same to the South side if they havent yet. Idk if theyre gonna drop the rest or leave it like some of the bridges in the Keys. Ive asked around, no one seems to know right now.
if there tearing it down they better put something in to replace it cause its just another way that the "man" takes away something that anyone can do for little or no money i think its total bullshit they did the same thing here in naples we had a huge area to off road then they closed it to everyone they promised a tract of land somewhere else that we could go off roading but that was 10 yrs ago still nothing its always the same joe public gets shit on while some old bastard get his way cause he's got money
Dude, theyre not rebuilding it or replacing it. When the present fishing pier is deemed unusable they'll just make it off limits and let it rot/fall down. Look at Gandy fishing pier. WAS my fav tarpon and shark spot! Now just rotting away. "No tax money to fix or replace." But theres apparently money FOR A NEW STADIUM HUH?! Or some frigging railway?! I protested the hell outta Gandy being closed but no one gave a damn. How many bridges in the Keys just have the base lopped off and are rotting away? Quite a few last I checked. It sucks but thats our elected officials and taxmoney at work bro. What really can we do? Individually, nothing. With enough numbers you may be able to do something.
its a shame that was a cool place to fish never caught anything big off there but did get some nice runs off of it. its a shame they can use alil tax money to fix it up. hell you pay 4 per person and another 4 for your car
this really burns my ass "like i been sitting on a belt sander " this shit happens all the time and even if the people protest it it still doesnt get anything done the off road area i talked about got over 16,000 signitures to keep it open but that petiotion was just flat out ignored

i fish the skyway a lot and from what i understand is that they are taking down the unfishable side of the bridge so people can fish both sides which is great for us meaning we can fish both tides.
Great till they deem the side we fish "unsafe". Keep in mind they were built at the same time. Why is the west side safe but east not? Think the east side was protecting the west from erosion from the strong outgoing tides? The fishable side is just as old and they'll likely condemn that side whithin the next year or two. Especially if the other part is no longer there to slightly protect it. Look at Gandy just rotting away. One less place to fish. Skyway will soon join that club. Then where do we all go? Desoto Piers? That close right when I would normally be just headed out.
i really hope they dont close down skyway. i love fishing there. even if i dont catch any thing its fun to just fish some where else for a weekend.
