Splicing hollow core to mono or knot?

Is splicing 130# jb hollow core to 130# mono the only way to go, or can you tie a Bimini to yucatan or some other knot to connect the two?

I read a lot of posts and articles about this. You may use a knot. Some people will tell you about big sharks that were landed on rods with 6 different knots holding the line together.

A knot can work but a splice will always be better.

My friend had a 130 mono tied into 100 mono, I dont know what knot it was but it was done at a tackle shop by a pro. The knot slipped. This was on his 9/0 so there was not too much pressure there.

I am currently setting up a big real and I decided to go with the JB 200 with an LP 250 topshot. I fed the mono into the JB about 10 ft or more. That splice will not fail.

Did you use floss? Did you use a needle? Can you share your technique?

Thank you

Chris the LP250 fits into both JB 200# hollow and tufline 200# hollow, using a daho needle I did. Then doing the standard splice serve at the end. There is a blackwater video illustrating it all on youtube, around 8 mins that is extremely helpful

Here is the link to the Blackwater video. It is what I used for the most guidance. I also read posts from Catchin Jiants on here and another site but the video will suffice.

I too used the Dahoe needle. People have made the splice without the needle (time consuming) but I used the needle it only took a couple minutes to feed the line in over 10 feet.

For the LP 250 to the JB 200 I used the 150LB - 200LB needle (N20060) and I shaved the tip of the mono with a razor to fit in the needle. Worked perfect.

After I fed the line in, I popped the line through the braid, cut the shaved down section and roughed the line up with some sand paper. You may also burn the tip of the mono with a lighter to give it a slightly bulged tip. These steps provide additional grip for the braid. Then you just slip the mono back into the braid and pull the braid tight.

After that, I did what they show in the video. I even built a plat form to clamp the line to from some spare wood. Took 5 minutes and I am sure it saved me some hassles. I did not have the bow string server so my splice was not as pretty, but I dabbed the super glue in some spots and I have plenty of faith in the splice.

What do you think of this idea. A mono top shot gets cut off. You splice back the rest of the mono top shot with this technique. What do you think?

Excellent idea and something I have also read about people doing.

The trick is to cut out the section of hollow core twice as long as you want your splice to be in the end. The hollow core will shorten in length when it expands to take the mono inside.
