Shredded 1000lb cable

Hey guys, when i was down in florida last summer i hooked into a monster. I was using 1000lb stainless steel coated cable and this is what happened about 20 seconds after i set the hook. The shark took over 3 feet of cable and a 16/0 J hook. In hind sight, i wish i was using #19 single strand but its a lesson learned the hard way. What do you guys think did this?

I think it was a BIG TIGER...

My guess is A Tiger Shark, due to their power and serated teeth, Or a Hammerhead Shark due to their power and the fact that they naturally swing their head from side to side as they swim, therefore grinding down your cable one strand at a time. I have had this happen several times now and I now use #19 piano wire with no compaints.

We need a bigger hammer!

The shape of the tigers teeth is made to shredd tough prey such as logger head turtles,,,,,,,they get that thick cable in between those serrated teeth grind a few times and they got you.It won't happen like that every time but from our expierience it happens alot more with the cable and almost never with the #19 or #22 wire.Read Mundus's work he used multi strands of 19 when targetting the big great whites,,,,,,,no one knew better then him.Good luck Matt.

Thanks for the advice Will. I plan on using #19 almost exclusively next season. Especially on baits over 10lbs.
