Short Spin Rods
Anyone use a short (7') spinning rod for surf casting for sharks? I am going up to myrtle beach over the summer and won't have a surf rod with me. I have a 7' ugly stik tiger with a 50lb braid loaded penn 750. I figure I'll just wade out as far as I can and chuck it. Anyone have any success with this? I'm looking for 5' class sharks.

That's a great question. I was thinking of a similar setup for 5-6 footers.
I do it all of the time. I use a 6 foot leader.
6' 1/32 cable crimped to 350 lb swivle then about 1' from the hook I place a stopper then a 4 oz weight and then another stoper on top of the weight to hold it in place. I use an 8/0 circle hook with a nice chunk of bait.
I fished this set up on a penn sargus 6000 with 30 lb braid 7' hurricane red bone 20-40 heavy action
also avet sx 50 lb braid to 50 lb mono top shot 7' star plasma 17-40 lb . I can cast it about 30 yards
