Shark Conservation Act passed in USA

I received an email from Oceana stating:
Hot on the heels of yesterday’s Senate vote, the House passed the Shark Conservation Act earlier today.

This means that shark finning is illegal in the US.

Sharks are vitally important to our marine ecosystems, but commercial fishing has drastically depleted shark populations around the world, in some cases by 99%. The Shark Conservation Act is an important step in restoring shark populations and healthy oceans.

Too bad there isn't an enforceable international law like this. (Just my 2 cents.)

Its gona be hard to get every one in the world on board. I guess the US waters will fuel the rest of the worlds commercial fisheries. I have seen wearhouses stacked full of dried fins. When I was in my early 20s some one was buying them for 20$ a pound dried. I found the guy and took some that i had saved up. While I was there he showed me why i had not caught one all summer. Boxes and boxes of fins. I was apauled by the slaughter and deciced not to kill any more sharks for money. Shure i couldhave sold the fins and all the guys at the pier was like, you just let 50$ go. I guess i was the first person i had ever seen let one go, and the fin wearhouse is why.I was like most, broke and needed the money but it was not worth helping them kill what i loved to make a few extra dollars. Money and greed is the evil here. A fin boat can stay at sea for months because the ice hold isnt full of fish and the fins are easy to store. It is still going on every where in the world but here and austriala. The asian's eat some real trash and do not care about what they cannot see. We harvested a spinner shark a couple weeks ago, while it was on the pier an asian guy was like waaaaa, shaark fin zoop, dat go good with rice. I said no no, the buzzards and cyoties gona eat that part. "I buy" he said, I replied "not for sale!" Good job keeping up with all this important stuff Fishergirl.
