In 2011 the South Florida Shark Club and it's members will once again as in the past be active in pursuing IGFA world records.Unlike in past years MOST of the world records we will be pursuing will be catch and release of smaller species of sharks that can be weighed on portable sling style scales. There are many line classes in different species that are fairly easy for the shark fisherman that have done there homework. The IGFA is the governing body with the history and the prestige that keeps track of all fishing world records and we will encourage our members to get involved with this organization. The focus of the IGFA has changed from kill and weigh to weigh and release and we want to work closely with IGFA officials to promote this new way of doing things. We have the inside scoop that starting in 2011 many species of gamefish that the IGFA has traditionally tracked in weighed divisions will be changed to overall length as a means of classifying records as this allows for the release of gamefish after measuring. We applaud their efforts .We will monitor the situation and keep you up to date as to available species and the what changes will go into effect.

The SFSC will dominate the new release IGFA, land based. They need to look at the ILSFA as an example and take girth and fork length measurements and plug in the formula. Its about time the IGFA decided to quit killing there record sharks.
