I was going to reply to a barbless hook discussion but this is worthy of it's own topic.
I've seen some prototypes of big game hooks with the ability to retract the barb by hand with a mechanism. I feel that these would eventually rust, corrode, or jam over with debris eventually, but they are very interesting to look into and could be a game changer for future shark fishermen.
