I'm looking at buying a 9/0 to try and catch sharks in the 8-11 foot range and was wondering if spooling it with 1450 yards of 100# PP was a good idea? I also considered stepping up to the 12/0 and putting PP on the bottom with mono on the top. I would appreciate any help, thanks!

Well I fish the beaches in the naples/bonita area were its just a sandy bottom. I have a fin-nor with about 450 yards of braid and have never been broken off by anything in the past couple years. I'm leaning towards the 9/0 because its about half as much as the 12/0.

This is what happens when you think you had a big reel at one point...

Good luck with whatever you get.

With that 12/0... some bulls(one big one), some lemons, and a tiger, lost a lot of big sharks with it, the girl that used it before me got an 11ft tiger and an 18ft sawfish...

Nice! Ok, so if i get a 12/0 should I put 1500 yards of 100# pp and then some mono to top it off, or should I go straight 100# mono?

Load it with straight 100 lb mono. Depending on which edition of the 12/0 you got you should be able to get 900 to 1000 yards of it on there. If you can't stop it with half a mile of line it probably wasn't meant to be.
