One thing you never should leave home with out is a camera in florida with all this coast line you never know what you will see.I went on a short fishing trip to Cortez bridge and I needed a camera and didnt have one on me and my phone was dead.
I watched a school of dophin chasing a shark right out of the beach area where kids where swimming .From the top of the bridge as I kept yelling "shark" but in the wind ,no one could here me ,so I yelled louder "SHARK" they heard me that time,, and got out of the water quick.

Those DOLPHINS were turning at the very last second and avoiding smashing into that wall,

LowProfile, I use GoPro Hero 3 Black edition to bring on the yak on those rough waters, always amazing quality. For land I bought a 16MP camera off of groupon.com for like $30. Good place to get a cheap camera that you wont worry about too much if it breaks

I have an old "point and shoot" in my glovebox in a zip lock for crappy days. And a cheap lil dry box I got a Walmart for my wallet and cell. I double up a gallon ziplock around my DSLR in its carry bag.

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix AW100 and love it. Water proof to 33 feet so i can dive with it. I also put a large pencil shapped float on the strap and electrical tapped it in place, so now if it falls in i can see the orange float carrying it. That float has saved me a few times already. Love the camera also. About $350 with 16GB SD i think.
