Once bitten, twice shy
From Yahoo Buzz:
Last week, we read about a truly unusual shark attack on a surfer off the coast of Hawaii. The surfer, 68-year-old Jim Rawlinson, is OK. His surfboard...not so much. According to a buzzy article from KHON2.com, a tiger shark attacked Rowlinson's surfboard, and as the shark bit in, Rowlinson slid backward and landed (get this) on the shark's back. "I was onto the shark's back...anywhere from about five to ten seconds," he recalls. A quick thinker, Rowlinson undid his surf leash, which tethers his leg to the board, and slid off the shark's back. Locals believe the shark mistook the surfboard for a turtle. When the predator discovered it had bitten into polyurethane foam and not yummy tortoise meat, it let go and swam away. Mr. Rawlinson seemed rather unfazed by his close call. He reportedly continued surfing for 45 minutes before coming ashore.
