My new 16/0 is a conversation piece right along with my other fishing memorabilia.
People don't want to believe it but these 16/0 penn senators just keep going up on price, I bought one about 5 years ago on ebay for a buy it now for 600 dollars, everybody thought I was crazy for buying it for so much money, but the reel was in like new condition it was flawless, some time later I was pressed for money and put if for sale on ebay and sold it for 1,280 dollars to a guy in Hawaii, I own 2 now and wont sell them for anything in the world, and if I can get another one I will.

These Penn Senator reels will continue to increase in value because they are not built any longer and there scarcity drives up there value. If you search dilligently you can find good deals still .I just purchased a 16/0 and a 14/0 from an ebay seller(thanks to Travis)paid $685 for the pair and total almost $750 with shipping and money transfer fees .The reels came from the northeast and were used to catch Bluefin Tuna. The 14/0 is in fair to rough shape has the newer white handle , but the 16 with it's old school amber colored handle is in very good shape .Overall I feel I got a good deal and pleased but I really don't need two more Senators so I will probably put them up for sale soon or I'll keep the 16 and sell the 14.The only other negative that I noticed on both reels is that the star drag does not go to a loose setting ,I'm guessing they each have an extra drag washer.

Not really sure how much this means but, there is a local tackle shop(Dogfish tackle) that has a few brand new in box 16/0's. Now I'm not sure so I'm just guessing that even though there brand new, there not from the late 60's. Now the ones they are selling are $800.00, now although that's not "cheap", do you think there cheaper because of the year it was produced?
To all of you fellow fisherman, don't be fooled by what you see,an average 16/0 goes for $425-$525,a collector reel goes for about $700-$800,that is new mint in the box.what you seen there on e-bay was one guy selling and his two buddies jacking up the price, one bidder had only 1% deals with the seller, the other had 80%,and only made two bids one low the other to win at whatever it sold at.so he was willing to pay 2 grand when he bid $500 for it, the third got smart.do you're reaserch before you deside to bid on this stuff know the real value ,look for the best deal's,you may choose to believe this or ignore it,purchased 2 16/0 for $300 each two month's ago, purchased another $425 full of line 3 month's ago,got one on e-bay for $264 less than a years ago.got a free 12/0 less than a year ago,and no none where junk.you have to look for them evereywhere and don't be fooled by scammer's,yes that reel was new but so where the other's that sold correctly at real value.fishing cost enough as it is we don't need to play the house bubble game with our gear.good luck and be smart.
William ,
I was bidding on thsoe reels as well. had to work and missed the end of the auction and couldnt bid any higher. i am glad you won them and happy that you are pleased with them it seemed like a great deal. was wondering about the condition of the 14/0 though. congrats on your win and appologize for running the bids up on ya.
