naples pier tiger
We used to venture out to the Naples pier on occasion but they started getting serious about the "no shark fishing allowed"rule and we started going only late at night with our reels off the rods (in a bucket) and only when a east wind blew so we could garbage bag our baits out. Some big fish were caught there back in the day.Do they bother you about shark fishing at the pier still.

the tiger is about 12-14ft est i floated out a 40 lb chunk of ray i was using a quantum aruba with 635 yds of braid and was down to 1/2 spool in about 2 min and they really dont bother you out there late at night unless your acting like a jackass like the teenagers do out there
Great to know i will be out there with you very soon.Only 85 miles across alligator alley and I'm there.Yahhoooo!!!

I got a nice run on a ray I dropped out there a couple weeks ago..but I was about 2-3 miles north of the pier. I do not go to the pier, I do not agree with the rules at all. Plus the rangers will show up from time to time. I don't think it was anything near that big though but I think it was either a tiger or maybe a nice bull. It steadily took off 100+ yds of line with ease then ended up wrapping me on a crab trap. It spit the hook when I backed off on the drag to keep from being popped. But I would not recommend pursuing that beast from the pier especially with the snowbirds starting to show up. Naples relies heavily on the yearly influx of snowbirds and does not want them to be frightened or even aware of the natural wildlife that thrives right behind their condos. There are plenty of beach accesses within close proximity with stretches of beach that are nearly vacant..better hauling it up there than in an area with heavier traffic with no shark fishing rules in place.
