My 10 foot GATORGLASS is getting a rebuild
The time has come to rebuild the old Monster meat stick .This rod with it's highly valued Gatorglass blank (no longer made) has served me well throughout the years. With it I have caught many big fish including an 8 ft 8 inch Bull shark that will air on Nat Geo's "Hooked" tv show this year. After almost 15 years of use ,the deep battle scars each one a memory of a different incident are starting to show more and more. This rod is my favorite big gun and it deserves the best of care, so this week it gets a whole new rebuild. My cork is worn down to the blank on the butt and foregrip and two of the foul proof guides have snapped of so it's time for a vacation at the Rod shop. It's like the 6 million dollar man "we can rebuild him stronger ,faster, better"I will be getting braced ceramic guides instead of the foul proofs ,the Aftco stripper will remain as will the Aftco bigfoot size 28 tip, but the cork will be replaced with a black veltex foam butt section protected by black shrink wrap and on the foregrip also the veltex minus the heat shrink material. The beautiful and intricate Pompano wrap above the foregrip will be the only section of the rod that will remain unchanged. The reason i want the shrink wrap on the butt section is because this rod with the 16/0 on it is very heavy and when I hook a fish on the beach I almost always sit down and stick the butt in the sand while using a shoulder harness,,,,, so what happens the butt section that is in the sand always gets alot of wear and tear and I feel the heat shrink will offer me better protection against the chaffing. This rod is being rebuilt by Chaos rods(Marshall) the best in south Florida right now .I will post the pictures once it is finished.

Even though we use rubber hose protection on our rods eventually the rod takes a beating with the years and the monsters

I just wanna start off by saying, wow that's a beast of a setup. She is gonna love you even more when she is all redone. You do realize she'll be a virgin again and you'll have to pop that cherry again. Okay now I have a question, I do know your blank is an original Gatorglass 10ft unlimited and I also know they don't make them anymore. And I've been reading and reading about good blanks to use, so far all my shark rods have been old school solid fiberglass rods. I know alot of people don't share my thoughts on the solid fiberglass rods but, I love them. Anyways, do you have or know anything about the "new" Gator blanks? I know Mudhole sells the shark-unlimited 10ft blank but I have never met anyone who is familar with them. Also do you think a 9/0 will be a bit small on that big of a rod? Thanks for any input you feel like sharing.

i think 9/0 would b a lil small a 12/0 is prob the smallest id personally put on it..and i think hoogan has played around with the new unlimited blanks..not sure but u can ask him
Just got back my 10 foot Gatorglass rod from Chaos rods and i'm very satisfied with the work and the beast is ready for action once again.Marshall at Chaos rods put her back together in fine fashion ,on time and i am pleased with the work. Thanks Marshall. The rod has two new foul proofs that were broken,a new heat-shrinked butt section and new corktape foregrip secured with heat-shrinked ends.

The cork tape foregrip is secured with heat-shrinked ends to keep it from unravelling and ofcourse the rod will have the clear hosing over this section to give it additional protection

the butt section has heat-shrink over cork tape and will stand up to the beach sand better then the black veltex material

She's ready for battle once again

I want to take this time to thank my friend Arturo Sola (Hoogan)for the recent rebuild of my Penn Senator 16/0 that will now be rejoined once again with the 10 foot Gatorglass 130 lb rod and will be one of two 16/0 combos to be used on the bridges and piers.I Can't wait to battle a 15 foot hammer on the seven mile bridge soon. For use on the beach I will be using two lighter 14/0 setups with shorter rods. Thanks to Marshall and Randy at Chaos rods-the best monster shark rod builder in South Florida ,thanks to Tony Medina ,Big Will J,Shawn and Kenny for pointing me in the direction of the very best
