Honestly I believe its a prefrence thing.I personaly would use mono over dacron I had one reel and the dacron seemed to absorb the salt water and caused some corosion problems with 9/0. I dont know if anyone else has had a problem with this or not. I personally use Power Pro most ppl dont use braid on there big reels because it gets cut off to easily they say, I personally havent had the problems they have had I obviousley used Mono before I started with braid and have landed some big fish on Mono also and have with braid also I used 100 lb PP on my 4/0 and landed my biggest Jewfish ever estimated at about 400lb from shore have landed some nice sharks on it also but I am on the west coast and we dont have the reefs close like they do on the east coast so I have not had the reef issues with braid. Also another reason I use PP is my biggest setup is a 9/0 so I need the capacity. Looking into gettin a 12/0 or a 14/0 and I will use heavy mono on it

I have a 9/0 and have thought about some power pro braid with a mono topshot, just to gain some some yards, but havent tried it. My 14/0 is packed to the max with 130 ande, seems like the best way to go. I have used dacron once and have had the typical problem many people have, where it seems to dig into the spool.

950 yds of 150lb pp with about 50 yards of mono backing I bought a 1500 yd spool off Ebay for around $150.00 after shipping

Over here we dont have many rocks or coral. I use dacron exclusivly. always have when i can afford it. Dacron dont stretch. I have got 3 good years out of some spools of dacron. When ya put it on be shure to put alot of presure (like ya reelin a big bait in) and always fill the low spots. Never leave it un packed. if ya get cut and reel alot of line in be shure to re pack it and that goes for any line. 1200yds of 130 godrod dac fits on a 16/0. The big advantage is the hook set. Some of our beaches have a hill ya cant run up. I let the fish tighten my line. It is way ya have to do on a pier also. Get out where ya can pull about 300yds off and tie it to ya buddy and see what does best.

I have always used dacron too and i always pack my reels tight too. but i have had problems getting cut of lately so i switched to tht mono and it screwed my spool up on my 16/0. the shops around here said they would charge me around 180 bucks to fill my 16/0 up with 130 dacron.

I was looking at some on ebay and a few other places that was solid white that had a pretty good price like 30.00 for 600yds. I like the black or green due to blue fish biting off the spoted stuff. Good luck geting a new spool. I have seen mono blow up several 706 penn spools. Every one said the line was not packed on tight enough. as mono stretches it gets thinner and contracts slowley. so ya reel it in tight and stretched and it relaxes and expands and some thing breaks.
