Mark the Shark
My friends and I took the trip back in December to go shark fishing in Miami. We took a charter with Mark the Shark. We departed from Biscayne bay, headed out government cut and headed to the gulf stream. It was my first time on a 46 hattaras. This fishing trip turned out to be more of a sight seeing trip for we don't venture out to Miami very often being from the west coast. It was nice seeing Government Cut, especially after reading so much about Rene and how he caught monsters off the Government cut peir which is no longer there. The day was very unproductive. It was one of the worst days to go fishing. There was a nasty cold front come in and wind was blowing 25 out of the north. Needless to say it was windy and cold. There were 5 footers and dispite being on a 46 hattaras it was boucing around like a bouy. The girls were not too happy and one friend puked off the boat half the time begging for us to go home, unfortunately after paying $1200 for the trip that was not an option. We stuck it out for the full 8 hours. First we caught bait. My friend kyle was dead set on catching a shark but mark the shark told us we would have better luck trying to catch migrating sailfish. By god we tried. We tried all day. We tried every fishing method. All I can say is we tried. Mark the Sharks deckhand worked his @$$ off. When I say we didn't catch anything it wasn't from lack of effort that's for sure. We talked to Mark and picked his brain. He told us he knew Rene and used to fish with him back in the day. He also made me realize that when your passion is fishing don't make it your job. Once its work you no longer enjoy it as a pastime. After a full day of trying to catch fish we did some trolling. All we caught was a stinkin lizard fish. LAME. But I guess that's why they call it fishing not catching. Regardless of the disappointment it was wonderful to get to see the area that William speaks of and thinking of the great Rene and his adventures in the past. It turned out to be a wonderful field trip
Wow... How Recient Was This Trip, Yes He Knew Rene & All The Original South Beach Sharkers, He Grew Up Fishing The Old World Famous South Beach Pier As A Kid, ( I Never Knew Him ) Before My Time, But I Know Of Him. I Heared J.D. Hammer, & Rene Talk About Him On Plently Ocassions. He Does know His Stuff. Did He Offer Another Trip Since You Guys Didn't Catch Anything ?

The trip was recent. It was just last December 4 months ago. He definitely seemed to know his stuff. I have never been a big fan of shark fishing in the winter time but my buddy scheduled the trip for his birthday which was in December. Once we got back to his office after the trip there was evidence of lots of sharks caught. He must have had about 100,000 sets of shark jaws hanging all over the place. Unfortuantly there was no free trips. You pay for the fishing trip not for the sharks caught. Even his deck hand was well traveled and experienced in fishing.
