Kayaks
I'm looking to get a kayak for my future shark fishing adventures. I am looking at getting the Emotion Kayaks Spitfire 8', and I am wondering if it is too small to kayak baits out far. The reason I like this kayak is 1) It's small and easy to transport (I'm from Canada and have to drive it 22 hours to Florida) and 2) It's inexpensive (I only come to Florida once or twice a year). I don't care if I fall off sometimes but I just want to know that it's good enough to get my baits out if the surf is a bit rough.
Let me know what you think, thanks guys.
You can make due. It is a little short for the waves. It's not going out that would make it tough, but turning around and coming back in. Hard to keep it straight. I just got rid of an 8 footer and bought a 10 for those reasons. Then again, we made due for 3 years with the shorter one and I too am from Canada and can appreciate the transporting issues. Just make sure it is a sit on top model.
Cool. I am ok with sacrificing some performance in the kayak in order to make transporting it easier. I'm sure my fishing buddies will have a great time watching me struggle on a windy day haha. The Spitfire was on sale for $228 brand new so I ended going with that one.
Don't get an Emotion Spitfire. My friend got one, it is a SOT, but the hatch in the middle leaks badly. His Kayak constantly fills with water. For $100 more, you can get a good SOT like a West Marine Pompano, or the aforementioned Frenzy. Think before you buy, will you also fish out of this when back in Canada?
