Interested in a 30w that puts 85 lbs of drag 4 half the $ ?

Check this website out. http://okiayaonline.com/

30w is 239.00 85 lbs of drag.

50w is 489.95 105 lb of drag.

Reels are no way shape or form an Avet. How ever they are performing great and are a hell of a bargain.the 50w is being fished very heavily in MD for marlin. It's doing well.

There are rods as well 30-50 $49.95 30-80 $59.95 69.95 $80-130

I do not physcially have my rod yet. When it comes in there will be more to review and pictures of it under a load.

For the price it's going to be awfully difficult to beat.

I would STAY AWAY from companies that can't even spell the word "PRODUCTS". Although, its hard to blame these Chinese-knockoff-companies especially when while they copy in wrong way an item, they also copy in wrong way the word "PRODUCTS". That being said, now we have something called "PORDUCTS" - not far away from "POORDUCTS" :) at half price. Way to go China! No wonder that most people love the Made in USA stuff at double price. U get what U pay for - Period!

I don't exactly agree, a reel is a reel and most sharks aren't as extreme as a marlin or tuna fight. The real test would be it's sand resistance. When people buy $1,000 Nikes are they getting what they paid for? A cool style to stay in trend? Made from dirt cheap materials by dirt cheap labor!

Just an average fisherman.

I agree.

the reels are holding up from what the owner has said.

when I get mine I'll purchase through ebay. get it ready like im fishing and play tug of war with the car and see what happens... if I cant break it I'll let you guys know.

I was reading up on avet last night. I Couldnt beleive how many problems they are having and have had. MY reel is fine and I love it.. both of them work like a charm. How ever the TRX line had some issues with low gear not working. the older sx modles berrings were blowing out and the threads on the lever drag cap were wearing away for no apparent reason.

I mean at the price that is being offered for a new 30w if you fish it for a season and find out it needs a few berrrings or drag plates what the hell. The marlin have been matched with the 30w and 50w for a few years now and the only issue was the spring clip holding the lever drag on was deffected. it actually fell off. How ever this has been taken care of. Rods are a life time warranty no questions asked. Some one made the tip come lose by pulling on it and twisting it.The owner sent him a brand new rod.. I mean come on any lighter would have heated the glue right back up and it would have fell back in place. The customer service end seems to be well equipped. We are not talking 300 dollar rods or 800 dollar reels if they are holding up im all for it. Some of the penns that are china made have been great... others well arent worth 2 cents. I beat the shit out of a battle day in an day out I never had an issue with it... The sargus I can not break no matter what. A new 4/0 broke with out a fish.. soo who knows

Mark I think your comparison to a shoe is off though. This is "mechanical" and although it may seem like a good deal I am sure the longevity of the reel is greatly shortened to say a penn international. So do you want to spend the initial 600dollars on a reel that will last 15-20 years if taken care of right or half the price for a reel to last 2 years........

Mark,

When people pay $1000 for shoes, it's either for status or for charity. It's not the same for a mechanical object. Low grade metal gears along with other cheap materials in the moving parts will create huge problems, especially around saltwater.

There is also a huge difference cost wise AND strength wise between machined bar stock aluminum and forged aluminum. Small spinning reels with 20lbs of drag would be a toss up between price and performance but reels putting out double that pressure and more is a real gamble to the point that safety becomes an issue as well as performance. A reel turned up to high drag pressures with high pound test line fished in a harness becomes a dangerous scenario when the reel fails and locks up. Too many quality reels out there available on the used market to take that type of risk for heavy line class fishing.

Thous reels looks like being designed in italy and manufactured in china for this brand:

...and the okiaya seems to be the OEM manufacture in chiana. If so - you may have a shot, but there may still be some differences in design to avoid contractual issues between ajiking (the designer) and okiaya (the oem manufacture).
As far as reaching 85lb drag at full spool under that size reel, huh, they better use okuma's floating drag system or avet's double drag on each side of the spool, cause otherwise that reel will barely reach 40-50lb at full (i couldn't find any schematics to take a better look inside, so i won't deny that the reel can't reach that 85lb drag ). Getting parts should be your main concern if you decide to go with that reel. The faster way to test it hard core though, is, to spool it with full line, mount it on the rod, and tell to someone to drive up to 20mph the car while hooked and crancked at full. If withstands that - you have a winner, if not - you'll know right there what you have. Big Avets where tested like that as well.
Digging more, here is another interesting website:

I would use a paypal debit card though ;)

P.S. All these links are based on searches on the google. If you still decide to buy, don't hold me responsible if anything goes wrong with your order. Do your research well, before risking to order from these foreign websites.

BUY AMERICAN!!!!! ESPECIALLY if you plan on investing a decent amount of money. Support your country..who else is going to when even our own government could care less about American workers?

I can nearly guarantee that years from now, while my American made reels with hundreds of fish caught on them will still be doing their job, mass produced chinese made GARBAGE brands like these will be buried in the middle of some trash heap. It is a marketing scam..high drag like that on generic materials spells trouble, and garbage..and marketing scam. Good luck finding parts for junk like this when, not if, they break down.
