I have a 9 foot gator glass. if im strapped in a harness and the butt is in the gimble piece of the harness I have to struggle to reach the reel.
I'm thinking about knocking it down 1'
8 inches from the tip and 4 on the butt.
What do you think? I believe its an 80 lb class at 9' if i take 8 inches off the tip it will be a heavier blank.

What harness and belt brand you're using? It may not be the rod the problem, maybe is more related to your belt or harness that you're using.
a 9ft rod isnt really ment for a harness and belt. before you go cutting it try it in a harness with the rod but in the sand. how long is the but on it now?
in the sand i will be fine.
I sat in the grass with the rod under my leg and I felt i could stop cars like "Catchinjiants"
I know its not made for the harness... but on the sand i'd like to have it. i guess i dont need the gimble would be nice to have the choice of standing up in the harness though.
im not sure how long the butt is but if i take 4 inches off of it its still plenty long.
the butt measures in at 19 1/2 inches
id only cut it if your ready to rebuild the whole rod. there is more to it then just taking a saw and cutting if you want it to look good. if you do choose to cut i would strip it to a blank and try to secure the reel on the blank just for test fitting and see where it feels right at and you may not even have to cut it.
its going to be professionally done.
Can the reel seat be moved down some?

they will have to prolyl cut the reelseat off and put a new one on. thats why i said do it when you want the rod fully rebuilt.

maybe i will tough it on the bridge and in the sand i'll just use the harness and the sand will be my gimble.
all you would need to buy is a reel seat and some eva and a gimble all of witch are pritty cheap.all the guides are still good.
or you can grow longer arms. lol

id take it to a rodbuilder in ur area and ask how much they would do it for.

He told me he can take 4 inches off the but put a gimble and take 8" off the top and put a new tip and you wouldnt be able to tell other then the fact that the first guide under the tip would be 3 inches apart from the tip.
I think i really need to fish this rod first.
yea id fish it and see how it feels. but if he can cut it and make it look good and after fishing go for it and cut it.
im waiting for timmyt to hook me up to a monster to break my reel in right.
