How should i spool my avet 80w?

Braid is a little to steep for me at the moment.

it's going to be on a 9' gator glass 80+ lb rod

I'm thinking about either 100 lb mono or 125/130 lb.

Any input is a great help.

Thank you

obviously i wouldnt fish 60 lb on something that can put out 60 lbs of drag. I used to fish 60 on my 9/0.

I'm thinking 100 as well.should get 800 + yards

then i'll run 20' of 300 lb cable to a 12/0 ss mustad and rip it in some fish.

It all depends on where you are fishing, from a beach you can put extremely light line and tire your fish out, I know someone who wanted to have some fun and filled up their 12/0 with 50lb test during the BHC.

But from a bridge or a beach with reed, the last thing you would want is light line, say you hook that monster, the shark is going to have more control over itself than you can have over it with your line, if the fish runs in and under the bridge, heavier line would be an extreme advantage in fray resistance.

I fish 60lb test on my 9/0 and fish it extremely carefully from the bridge because I know it is easy to lose fish with that light of a line. On my 12/0 I fish 125 or 130lb mono (can't remember) and am more careless as to using huge baits, fishing between bridges, next to pilings, etc. because I know the heavier line can handle the wear and tear of say a jewfish darting for a piling.

What you said about fishing 20 or 30ft of cable will come to a big advantage when that shark is straight up and down and thrashing about scraping up and around everything, but I would still recommend some kind of heavy mono topshot as a precaution especially when fishing near a reef and the shark has pulled beyond the reef and your line is now scrapping against it.

So i recommend more line from the beach, stronger line from the bridge or near reefs, but the best solution would be a combination of both, using some form of a bloodknot or other way of combining the two lines, you can fish heavy mono on top of light mono no problem.

Just an average fisherman.
