well i used to fish a lot and i have 2100 yard fishing line spool and many other large spool of fishing line. I kept the line inside 2 large brown paper bags inside a large moveing box in my walk in walking in closet in the darkness and coolest place in there. it's been in there for 2 years and is it still good to use?

Make sure its not dried out. It should be fine if the line isn't crisp.

Hi Guys:

I have stored 180 lb. Dacron on my reels for several years. I don't know if Dacron will deteriorate or not. I admit I will change my line out at the first opportunity. As I have it, Dacron will not rot or deteroate over time but, I will change it out for new Dacron.

i have mostly monofilament and copolymer line like Cajun Red (i got a big spool when it 1st came out). I did look up online and other places(outdoor life) and the rule is 2 years if you been useing it(like it's been a a rack or on the boat) and 10 if you been keeping it stored away from UV light. But if it look white or chalky it's gone bad.

I think it varies by quality of the line. On my smaller 3/0 -4/0 reels I use 80 lb bullbuster as top shot..haven't needed to replace the top shot in some time. The line has been fished regularly and baked in the sun but it's clear and stretchy still, landing fish after fish. The Berkeley big game I use on my spinning reels needs replaced more often I've noticed.
