We are always thinking how we can connect with our site users ,ways of reaching a broader base of fishermen so we are asking your opinions on how we can improve. We have a shark club long established that we run ,but make no mistake that is secondary to reaching the land-based shark fishing community around the world.

I know that sometimes I personally need to reach out to the shark fishermen from outside of Florida more and maybe tone down my quest for the older shark hunters it's just that i feel there are more great shark fishermen out there that have not even heard about us or they don't even own a computer but have a stack of old shark fishing pictures waiting to be shared and there stories told ,,,,it's my passion to find those greats of yesterday. Some will say "Will is buddy- buddy with the Florida sharkers and does'nt look at what we are doing in Texas,or North Carolina -wherever!!!Some are timid and fear being ridiculed if they ask a question and I can gurantee you we don't allow disrespect and everyone's rights are protected here.

We encourage everyone from any part of the world to get involved in the discussions that take place -we welcome everyone's opinion and are extremely grateful for your contributions but need your suggestions and idea so we can give you what you want.Running this site and overlooking the daily activity and keeping things right is job by it self.

This year we have a great group of fishermen that have joined the SFSC staff to improve our club operation but the website is always looking for new fresh ideas and new users to get involved.Together we can uphold and improve the sport we love and this site at the same time.Thank you very much.

You get me thinking and i will blow up the world :o

How about some type of cheap advertising!

For example these Google adds at the bottom and sides and top of EVERY forum, Maybe we can chip in and buy a few to TEST the effectiveness? They would be automatically generated on peoples Gmail accounts and web searches when they search certain terms like" shark fishing".

Makes me wonder if Google trades placed adds for adds from a customer?...That way there would be no cost?

Something to consider

Hmmm how about another tricky idea?

Make up some posters of varying sizes, Take them to or even mail them to PIERS that DON'T allow shark fishing!

The idea is when a customer is turned away the Pier attendant will have something to point to, To help keep there customer somewhat happy ;)

I was thinking about this too. Great way to keep connected. I was thinking that entire albums of shark trips could be posted. We may share 2 or 3 pictures here in our reports, but when we go we usually take 20-30 pictures. Im sure it could have many uses in additional to just that.

THESE ARE MY PROSPECT PROJERCTS FOR THE SFSC FOR 2011:
(1) A PRIVATE CHARTER ABOARD THE YANKEE CAPTS FOR MEMBERS OF THE FORUM AND MEMBERS OF THE SFSC. AS I SHARED WITH WILLY:
-I PUT IT TOGETHER
- WILLY/CHRIS (SNOOK HUNTER) ARE THE TRUSTED TREASSURERS FOR THE DEPOSITS
(2) NOT TO BE DISCLOSED AT THIS TIME BUT I'M WORKING A DEAL WITH A MAJOR FISHING MAGAZINE TO DO A FIELD REPORT ON THE SFSC ACTIVITIES AND COME OUT WITH US FOR THE PICTURES AND THE REPORTS (MORE TO BE REVEALED) I'M THINKING A GATHERING AT LONG KEY BRIDGE FOR THE RENE MEMORIAL OR THE BIG HAMMER CHALLENGE. STAY TUNNED, IMAGINE SEEING YOUR SELF AND FRIENDS WITH ALL THE BIG SENATORS LINED UP AT LONG KEY AT THE NEWS STANDS!!!

I think this is a great site for the sport and it's history. Don't change the open forum style that makes posting your opinion OK. I looked at the TX site and it's run like a communist regime. Someones got a very inflated ego over there. I do think that cleaning up the how-to section and not derailing the threads with off topic material would be helpful to the new or out of state fishermen. A strong emphasis on promoting tagging or catch and release will send a strong positive signal to the environmentally active, the newbies and those that read this site to make us look like murdering idiots. I think your already seeing some fresh faces on this site that are aware of our heritage and bring a wealth of knowledge to the table. Most of us are on other forums lets put the link on our signature and try to spread the reader base that way. I bombard the sport networks with emails about LBSF and the various tourneys etc. Some day someone will pay attention and maybe we can bump a ping pong tourney or something similar. Just my 2 cents. There are some good ideas coming from this post it seems.

Alot of times folks are turned off by the name being South Florida Shark Club. Maybe on the face book put Florida Shark Fishin sponcered by SFSC. Its like the picture on the front of a book, at first glance it appears to be a regional club.

You're right Ernie I've thought about that many times and it's a tempting to change the name to "Florida Shark Club" to appeal to a broader base but there was once a Florida Shark Club out of Jacksonville Florida and we go back a long way with the name South Florida Shark Club(1983) .I think that the real hard core shark fishermen that look inside this website and see our post they realize we are not limited to south Florida-they can see that we have ventured far and extensively to fish for sharks .We have made solid friendships with other shark fishermen around the state and we have tried to shark fish just about anywhere in the state where sharks are present and that we go out of our way to make contact with shark fishermen from all over the world .We invite everyone young or old ,newbie or old salt ,we welcome everyone to post there stories anbd pics even if they are from 30 ,40 or 50 years ago.We certainly don't want anyone to feel that we are any different or any better then anyone -that's not us we are about sharing the passion for this sport and reaching out to all shark fishermen. We are about sharing the love of the sport and encouraging everyone to join in on the fun.We have folks like Ernie Polk that from the far reaches of this state represent the best of Florida land-based shark fishermen and we are honored to have him here with us.We encourage everyone that wants to to join in our discussions and don't want anyone to feel left out.I think that through our efforts we will continue to bring in new shark fishermen from other parts of Florida that are not yet represented in this site.

ps,,,,,,,,,,,,REMEMBER THAT WE HAVE www.floridasharkhunters.com
which was created with the thought of reaching folks from all parts of Florida

I'm relatively new to this forum and my contributions have been limitted therefore my opinion holds little value as compered to many other founding members.
But IMHO Ernie has a very good point. If you can put ego and pride aside for the good of the club and the sport, this idea ought be tabled.
another idea: do a poll with the members.

South Florida Shark club needs to be the name for shure. But like the florida shark hunters that links ya to SFSC another may be needed like Land based sharkin or something like that. I know The Paxton's and some of the folks here kinda disagree on some things but the importance of the two(SFSC and ILSFA) sites to work together far out shadows the disagreements had in the past. I know there is a rift between competeing sites to begin with. The records kept of what we do is important and the Igfa does not fill the need. More interaction may prompt the ILSFA to be a bit more known and up to date, and in turn a promotion for both.
