whats up i am a 15/m year old from Arizona and have been fishing ever since i was 2. i have been getting bored with all of the the fish that live here so i decided to check something new out. so i got my self a 5,6 cabelas salt striker 50-130 pound rating and a penn 345 gti 22lbs of drag and have 300 yards 100 pound power pro and 150 yards 0f 80 pound berkley big game. and an 8 foot steel leader. I may be going to Florida for a few days this February and was wondering if this was a good time for shark fishing.

Welcome! You will find some expert sharkers here and some great information all over the site. That reel will most likely not be sufficient because sometimes you need to kayak the bait out 300 yards or more to get into sharks. However, in february the blacktips will be around pretty thick and you should be able to hook some close to the beach. Use any locally caught fresh fish as bait such as ladyfish, bluefish, barracuda, jacks, or skates/rays. should be able to snag up some cudas and jacks in the intracoastal without any problem.

Welcome to the forum. Be careful, if you visit the Keys in February you will want to come back again and again. You could end up addicted for life. Fishing fever is impossible to get rid of!

you dont really need 100lb i got a 7ft spinner on 30lb mono. i would go with liek 50 to 80lb powerpro for almost 1000 yards. as for a leader you just need a nice big j or circle hook, 400lb mono and like 4 foot of 360lb steel. or you can go the nice expensive way and use all cable.

i first purchased my reel because it was the biggest reel their that was a level wind and was large enough to catch any thing i THOUGHT i would into any were but by the sounds of it i should have gone with the penn senator 9/0 witch i might still be able to do. Do you think that i should or should i save up and get myself a penn 12/0 cause those reels are are only like $300. or their is the penn special senator so now that i know that my reel may not be good enough here are my options thanks for the help

thanks since you caught a 7 foot tiger shark on 80 pound mono and that means it must hold about 500-600 yards and has 23.5 pounds of drag. (sorry if im wrong i am getting this info off the penn reels website) and my reel holds 450 yards of line and has 22 pounds of drag do you think it would be able to hold up to anything around 7 foot shark at max thank for all the help.

Blacktips can be found on any of the beaches around miami this time of year. You don't really need that large of a bait for them, a whole lady fish of jack should be fine. At night you should be able to cast for them without to much of a problem, also you can catch a blue fish and live line it. If you want to increase your odds, kayak the bait a few hundred yards off the beach.
