Has anyone else had a small run then slack line just to find out your line has been cut? We were out last night and had 5 runs and ended up with 3 cut lines and not right above the leader we are talking up to 75 +or- yds of line missing this is like the 30th time this year this has happned never have we had this much problem with sharks biting the line up so far. It dosent matter if its the reels with braid or mono

Many times schools of toothy fish such as mackeral ,kingfish or even a lonely cuda will snip right thru your line as it's floating or swaying in the current a bit it might look like a baitfish flashing by to them and chomp-gone.Check the end of the line when you reel it in if it looks shaved with no frays anywhere near the end then you're defenetly getting cut by toothy fish.Last time I was up in the panhandle I got 6 cut-offs in a 30 hour period and that's about $10 per rig at wholesale value so that's why we don't use them expensive cable rigs in Florida and besides the #19 works just fine.

Hi Guys:

I might suggest putting a styrofoam float on the end of your leader. If you get cut-off during the night you can easily retrieve your leader next morning. Just kayak out to it and pick it up. I've used the floats on my leaders in Texas and it doesn't seem to effect the sharks taking a bait, and it has saved me many many leaders. I tie the styrofoam float directly to the top of the leader. I do not use a float tied with 10 or 20 feet of mono, but tie the float directly on the leader. Try it, it just might save you some money.

Best and tight lines,

Yes it was been a bad year for this problem.Have run into this everytime I,ve fished off the beach this year.Just had it happen on the east coast this weekend and about 30mins later one of the Mikes in our group hooked a BT and it had my line wraped around her.Still had my leader and brick on the line.(got my $15 leader back)They seem to run about 50-100 yards off the beach so I have been running a balloon out on my line about 75yards off the beach. Also seems to help cut offs from rocks and hard shell areas....Dave
