Had to be a very large specimen because in most cases even a 14 or 15 foot great white will take a leg or leave a large moon shaped bite on the torso but it's more rare to have a bather completely taken. When you go in the water in places where great white sharks are known to inhabit you accept the risk of attack.Horrible way to die!!

I've always been kind of a nut for shark attack stories , I think I have almost every book to date on the subject , surely there's some I don't have . The one thing that stood out for me in this attack was that every eye witness described this shark as " a dinosaur , gigantic , longer than a minibus , very large , etc. " Even for GW attacks rarely do you ever see so many eye witnesses agree on the size of a shark in this way. In a couple of stories from the West Coast in the 1960's " the witness described the attacker as a huge killer whale , dark on top white on the bottom". This was before Jaws and before most people really understod alot about shark attacks. I totally agree with Will , this was not a 15ft white , most likely one of those giants from our dreams and from our nightmares .
