More Then Likely Either Something Under The Water Like Coral Or Structure Or I Have Seen Sting Rays Get Their Tails Around Line And Leaders. You Could Of Had A Golith Grouper And He Ran You Into Something. Use Mono Its More Resilent.

I Dont Believe Into Tieing Different Lines Into Reels( Blood Knots Can And Will Break Seen It Happen To Often)Use Straight Line On Your 9/0. I Understand It Sucks To Keep Replacing Line But When You Hook The Beast ITS ALWAYS BETTER TO HAVE NOTHING HAVING A CHANCE TO BREAK OR GET HUNG UP!!! :!: :!: :!:

SharkFetching27 - I could be wrong ... BUT

Check out the location that the guys on the shark sites fish from.
JPShark38 fishes the Miami area. Think about what is on the bottom of the ocean there, Fan Coral, reefs ... there is a lot of stuff to cut you off in SE FL. It's not an easy (forgiving) area to fish. What is on the bottom of the ocean in your area? On the SW coast where I fish, there isn't much structure at all. The trend I see is that SE FL Fisherman like very heavy straight mono - and for good reason. There's lots of stuff to cut you off there. Other areas of FL are more forgiving on braid. I like a heavy top shot connected to braid - but I happen to only fish areas that have very little surf, current & structure. Just my 2 cents.

Snookcatcher1 I Love The Input In Ref. On Whats On The Bottom, AND YOU ARE 100% CORRECT!!! Miami Beach Use To Have Quite A Bit Of Coral Life, Over the Years. Of Corse Most Of It Has Been Buried Due To Dreading. Gov. Cut Is Right On Our South Side In South Beach Only Thing Sepearating It Are The Jettys. And Over the Years Due To The Cuts Current And Storms; Rocks Have Been Literally Swept Away And God Only Knows Where They Ended Up Along The Beach. But I Will Say This, Me Personally Through Trial And Error, I ALWAYS USE STRAIGHT MONO! Their Really Is No Bottom Thats Forgiving ANYWHERE IN FLORIDA! There Are Older Guys In Our Club That Still Use Braided Lines Like Dacon And It Works. But Me 9/0 Mono Line 80lb. or Higher; 12/0 100lb. Mono Or 125lb. All Straight Line!!! Only Way I Know.
