Hey guys, I have a Penn 309 Level wind. I see guys talking about 9/0s and so on, and was wondering what ought size the 309 was. It seems that most people favor big reels( 10/0 and up) and was wondering how far off the 309 was from say a 9/0 or 10/0. I am new to the shark fishing community and the club so I apologize if this is a bad question but it had been bugging me and i have searched the internet with no answers. Thank you!

Thats one good reel you got there :D
309 holds around 500 yards of 30 lb Mono.
It has 15 lbs of drag and gears are 2.8:1 I think.
I love that reel.
You can catch alot of fish and small sharks with it.
I use 40-50lb mono on mine.
I got my first sailfish and kingfish on that reel.
Alot of people picked on me for using that reel but
now it's part of my name
I own a 9 0 also.
The difference I notice is:
9 0 retrieves alot more line & has a stronger drag & holds alot more line.
The 9 0 holds 1200 yards 30 mono just so you can get an idea.

All these fish were caught on levelwinds 209 and 1 0

If you look at the front of the boat you can see a white/yellow rod.
I still have the rod and 209 thats was on it in the pic.

My dad only uses the Shimano TR 100 reel now 50 lb mono.
