Fishing the channel on the North side of Bean Point on AMI?
Hi guys! I've been lurking, buying tackle and getting ready to try to catch a shark or 5. I know this may not be the best time of year to fish as water temps have started dropping sharply, but I've been thinking about Bean Point when it starts warming back up.
I live just off the island and fish there a lot. I was wondering about the channel that runs out of Tampa Bay past the north end of the island. Has anyone fished channels like that. It's basically the one spot on the island where you can cast a hook into 15 to 25 feet of water without even getting wet. (I hooked up with a tarpon there from the sand last May.) I know the current is super strong, but considering that the locals call the sand bar on the other side "the nursery," it seems like a viable spot to shark, if you can fish the current. Are channels a bad idea?
Disclaimer: I'm a noob and don't mind hearing that I'm an idiot if it's a bad idea, just tell me why.

Google Capt Bill Goldschmidt he was a commercial shark longliner out of Cortez who caught a lot of sharks right off that beach.Capt Goldschmidt has a very good book about his shark fishing adventures which might help you out,Good luck.
