Final tally for my year
I just came back from my three week vacation in Big Pine Key. The weather wasn't the best but it is better than -20 with snow. I was shark fishing at Bahia Honda bridge in 58.5 degree water for over a week. I got two sharpnose sharks and that was it. That's chumming and with multiple tuna heads/carcasses out at a time. That was the first year I never saw a Bull shark at Bahia Honda bridge. The water was so cold I was getting redfish fishing from shore, a couple of snook (though they were very slow), cero mackerel and some barracudas. The days I did get out on a boat, we were often at a bridge getting out limit of nice mangroves.
By biggest fish was a 5.5 foot silky shark, I got him in 250 of water on a wreck. The fishing wasn't what I had hoped for but I learned that when it comes to fishing, you can't force what happens. If there are no sharks there, you can't change it.
Final tally:
Silky shark (my first) 5.5 feet
King mack 50.5 inches-30.4 pounds
41 inches
Redfish (my first) 30.5 inches
17 inches
3 15 inchers
yellowtail 19 inches
Cero mack (biggest) 34 inches (smallest) 18 inches
Little tunny (biggest) 35 inches (smallest) 25 inches
Snook 28 inches
27 inches
