Nice big Cownose ray with the wings cut off :D Tough as nails, stays on the hook awesome, seeps blood all night and is just all around lucky for me. Or a good sized Bonito, headless and tailless just don't forget to PANTYHOSE IT!

Anything oily and local is preferred; ladyfish is everywhere year round, comes in all sizes, easy to catch, and usually caught where sharks are at the time. I've hooked everything from snook to giant hammers on them. In my opinion if a fish bait can't outlast the crabs then there aren't enough sharks in the water, try a new spot!

Just an average fisherman.

adult sharpnose with head, tail, and fins removed, single hook placed in tail. It will last forever and often can be used over and over. I fished one, caught a shark, put it back out, caught another, put it in the cooler, got it out the next day and ran it out and caught a 8'8 bull on it then! lol. When bait is hard to come by a sharpnose or two can be a trip saver.

wing slab from big cownoses, like off 50lbers, they have lots of juices and always get hit for me.

I Agree With You Mark, Any Thing Local For Its Time Of Year, Caught Rays And Put Out The Wings And Caught Sharks On Them, Seen A Hammer Chase A Ladyfish All The Way Up To The Surf On South Beach, Seen Big Hammers And Bulls Destroy Blacktips In The Keys. As Long As You Have Something With Scent, And Sharks Are Around Your Gonna Get Nailed! ;)

this post skipped by me and did not a chance to put some info forward,a lot of you guy's are not really ,using you're noodle to much, let's see,a shark first and foremost is a predator, predator's chase, seek out their quarry, now how does a snake find dinner, well it has varius senses, one it smells the air with it's toung,it sees it's pray with it's heat seeking pit's,if you concentrate on one trait, you becoume a fisherman of chance, the chance is that a shark will come across the bait sent and follow it all the way to it,i for one have tried and feel there is a better way,if you want the big fish in the sea you have to bait the hook with what they prey upon, have you guy's not sen enough video's of shark's hitting on what peolpe have hooked on theyr line's,the bat and the shark share the same trait eco-locating,there is nothing like live baiting "when possible",and the more and longer the bait struggles the better,i really don't wich is it that the sharks use more, scent or eco-locating ,but i now big predator's don't care what is in front of them that is struggling, they just know it is a meal waiting to happen.tarpon, cobia, mutton's,grouper, kingfish have all come to the the surface with a chunk missing, and so will black tips, reef's,lemon's,shovelnose, and any of the smaller variety of shark's,
so next time you have a chance, what do you have to loose.when that spool goes from 10 mph to 100 mph in a second, you will be hooked for life, anybody can tell when a dead bait get's hit,
ffisherman have many way's at there dispossal on how to fish for shark's ,you just have to use the best one," NO NOT THAT ONE'-----------THE NOODLE.

Ref: the rod...Yes You Are Also Correct When You Said That Anything Strugling Will Attract A Predator, And I Have Seen That Also ( ie: When seaweedthekhauna was younger he was at longkey and his blacktip got attacked by a 12+ Hammerhead, rene told him to let the hammer eat it and it attacked it so hard that it ramed its head into the pilings at full speed ) Another Example Was When Rene Hooked A Giant Hammerhead On South Beach In January With A Fresh Caught Lepord Ray. Now Granted The Ray Was Dead But AGAIN FRESH!!!!! And Why Did The Hammer Sniff Out The Ray...??? Oppertunity, So To Say That Sharks Wont Take Something Thats Maybe Not In Season, I DISAGREE! I've Seen More Giant Sharks Go For A Easy Meal Rather Than Waste The Energy Chasing A Lively Healthy Fish, Not To Say That They Dont Ever Do It Would Be Insane. But I Know Through "EXPERIENCE" You Increase Your Odds With Something Thats Around. Why Else Would The Sharks More Or Less Stay In The Area If The Pickings Aren't Good? If You Need More Proof Check Out Team Hot Reels Report Of The Shark They Caught With Bait Carcares Found In The Trash Can Practly Rotting Away In The Sun All Day. Using "YOUR NOODLE"...And taking Advantage Of The Current Situation.

 i love it  what i like to do if i freeline a live bait is impair their ability to swim. poke their eye, or clip their fins. theyll swim in circles and will look mighty easy amongst all of the healthy fish

I agree with all except the echo-location part bro. (I MEAN NO DISRESPECT) Think you're mixing Shark up with Dolphin. Echolocating animals emit calls out to the environment and listen to the echoes of those calls that return from various objects near them. Sharks use there Lateral line system and ampullae of Lorenzini to locate their prey. If they used Echolocation, a ray on the bottom would be invisible as the sound waves report would come back the same as they do the rest of the sand. Again I mean no disrespect. And I mainly use dead bait because I usually get my bait long before I head out because I hate getting out there and having a lack of bait. And on the beach live rays try to swim back in and all over the place and just foul everything up for me. But If I get a big ladyfish or blue or something of the sort you can bet your butt its going out alive 8-) .

Again I Agree With Every Thing You Guys Are Saying Referencing The Different Types Of Baits And Tactics To Deploy. And Since I Have Been Sharkfishing Since 1980's I Seen Guys Like ( Rene di Dios, J.D. Hammer, And William ); Sharkfish And Land Monster Sharks Almost Every Where Up And Down The Coasts Of Florida. This Eco-Location Thing I'm Thinking Is More About Tertorialiality. We All Know Most Big Predators ( ie: Tigers, Whites, Bigger Hammers, & Bulls To Some Extent ) Will Defend A Spot Against Other Predators. Meaning That What Ever Food Source Their Using They Want Solely For Their Own. I,ve Done Research With N.O.A.A. & The University Of Miami, And Various Documenterys Testing These Theorys To See How Far They Claim Their Spots, Now We All Know sharks Are Creatures That Will Almost Certinly Take Anything Thats Avaible To Them; A Good Example Is The I.G.F.A. World Record Great White Caught By Capt.Frank Mundus. He Used A Porpose As Bait To Catch That Shark, So Again We Know Sharks Also Will Go After Once In A While A Baby Whale Of One Thats Dieing, ie. The One Off The Northern Part Of The Pacific Ocean That Tried To Attacked A Baby Killer Whale And Ended Up Being Eaten By Its Mother Defending Its Young. So To Say Sharks Wont Take The Chance Is Living With Blinders When Comming From A Fishing Stand Point. I Dont Want Any Body To Think What They Are Using Or Doing Is WRONG OR A INCORRECT METHOD!!! Just Keep A Open Mind And Study Your Local Areas So You Know What To Use And To Catch The Beast from The Deep!!! ;) ;) ;)
