Check out this link i found about a study on the effects of longline hooks on the shark populations.In my opinion the authorities should all together ban the longlining of all sharks on a world wide level ,,,if possible.

I wonder what would happen to a group of people similar to the sea shepherds that went out and actually DID something to these whalers and comercial fisherman that were abusing what they were doing. I know they gotta make a living but they should do it the right way. If you sink a vessel in int. waters are you in the clear?

I hope you are joking.... something needs to be done but piracy or putting lives in danger in any way is not it how to go about it. Voicing your opinions is, I read the 2012 plan for long line sharking in the gulf of mexico and there were very few people that wrote in anything to be considered, it was like it was out of sight and out of mind. It is my understanding that anything that is sent in that is well written (not just crazy ranting) will be read and considered in the plan for the next season, not sure if it will do any good but it can't hurt.
yeah I hope youre right. I just hope we can stop other countries and our own from destroying everything before its too late.

if you google long line fishing there is tons of information out there. I have even picked up ideas from the commercial fishermen, like which circle hooks and sizes to use for certain species. There is lots of documentation of hook studies on different species, with thousands of sets of thousands of hooks recorded, pretty neat stuff really.
