Double 130 dacron. Under high drag pressures?
Has anyone fished double 130 on newer lever drag reels?
Was thinking about loading my 80w with it and topping with 200 lb mono.
I was wondering if anyone is having or had issuse with it digging bad due to the flatter shape of the line.
How is it holding up packed as tight as modern day braid?
The misconception of best for all shadowed the potential of dacron, strictly when we talk about shark fishing.
In my personal opinion, dacron is the BEST line fit for shark fishing. Not to thin, not to thick. It has higher abrasion resistance then braid, is much much cheaper, most come in hollow shape (for knotless knot) no stretch and nowadays some brands are even IGFA certified.
The only way to know that better, is to try it.
I won't be surprised to see, like Penn 117L, that dacron will find its well defined place, especially in shark fishing community.
P.S. A while back ago, one shark-fisherman made a comment on its IGFA 130lb dacron "I don't know man, this line feels way to harder to brake" - comment made while he tried to snap the snagged line.
I cant break my Prestige (Cabela's) 130lb IGFA certified dacron for the life of me. Unless It is all frayed and messed up. I haven't been snagged or really put my new 130lb mono to the test yet but its damn tough too. I have on the other hand put my 200lb Tufline through the ringers and I cannot, and have not ever broken it. I knocked the wind outta myself trying to break the Tufline! I tried to break it doing the running-man with the line wrapped several times around the reel and just got jerked off my feet landing flat on my back! I had to paddle out and cut it off like a twit.

LOL I read that in the original posting that you said about it.
I almost fell out of my chair laughing only because I have got hung up with 80 lb braid and had a hell of a time trying to bust it off. lol Next time video tape it. lol I found 130 dacron for reallllly cheap I might get some I havent fished it with heavy drag. Last reel that had it was my 9/0
Is it cheaper then this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAIDED-DACRON- ... 018wt_1185 same seller has 80lb/1,200yds for around $70. He had 130lb/1,200yds but i don't see it listed right now, maybe u can ask - if seems a good price for you. It's also a hollow line.
Hey rippenlipsoff:
I am an old Dacron user from way back. I have used Gudebrod Dacron since the late '60s and will probably die before I will go with something other than Dacron. I will say this though...Gudebrod has been in and out of business now for several years now and I am kind of flustered as to what to do when it comes time to replace the Dacron line that I now have on my reels. I am looking at possibly going with possibly a JB type of hollow Dacron to spool my reels with. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking with it.
Norman Bateman
Thankyou Norman.Always a pleasure to receive imput for a person of your nature.
I have fished dacron before and can't complain.
I have fished modern day braid and could fill up a complaints departments inbox in a matter of minutes.
I Lost My biggest and First hammer when Brand new 65 lb power pro Broke on a penn 9/0/ I was using a circle hook. I let the line get nice and tight and bam it broke -_- Never once with dacron have I had issues.
JB is nice. How ever it's super expensive. If I was in the position I would probably spool my reel with 600 yards 200 lb hollow and top it with 200 lb mono MY local area is full of submerged objects.
But for now, I'll take the poor man's hollow braid with it's proven history that comes at an inexpensive rate. A local tackle shop has a 5 lb spool of 130 dacron . I'm not sure if they are going to reorder more as they are letting it go for less the 6 cents a yard.
Thanks
Mr. Bateman, any word on when will you get your book done? There are several generations of great fisherman that have shared our passion over the years. Some wrote about their experiences and friends, some didn't. You were able to enjoy some great experiences in Texas and Florida in the 70's when I was a teenager. I for one would like to step back in time and read your stories.
It was great time for our sport, and the anglers of that era did alot of ground work for all of us that have followed long after they left the beaches.
Hope your doing well sir.
Tight Lines, Mark
