Cobia of the past

This is what is going on in N/W florida in april. I have been an avid Cobia fisherman all my life. I'v caught alot off navare pier and more from my little rubber boats. here are a few pics. I had to dig a hole under that ones nose to get it off the ground. Cobia fishin ant been good the last few years but ya never know. High hopes is what put all the fish on the hill.

Heres a coupl more pics. I learned how to hog tie a fish that day on the blue boat. that is Elijah Lang with me. I fought it for 1hour and 45 min. Then i had to keep it in the boat until i learned to hog tie it. Little boat big fish, lots of fun. Had a big hammer eat a 50lber at the gaf beside that blue boat.

What's the biggest Cobe you caught in your neck of the woods in pounds, since the Panhandle is reknown for monsters during April?

Nice fish Bigreel. I want to see more of those biguns. The panhandle holds the IGFA several times over. I have been on the boat when my good friend Mark Sweeny landed a 107lb cobia. I watched Stacy Lambert put a 92lb on navare pier. Stacy is the best Cobia fisherman on the pier. My biggest was the one at the top. it was 79lbs at the scale and was out of the water for 5 hrs befor i weighed it. My cooler was to small. Notice how i tie the fish to the tower of the little boat. Its kinda like my mako, the end of the fight is tougher than the rest all combined. The cobia wears its teeth on its back. Several big sharp fins the size of a pencil. they never give up and live a long time out of the water. I like to stick them in the cooler and stand on the lid and laugh while it beats and flops. Sometimes they will not fit in the cooler. Last year i caught 3 and the year befor i caught 4. the most i have caught in a year is 18. If the charter boats would leave my FAD alone no telling how many i would catch. Here is a good dolfin with a small ling(cobia) and a couple small king with Elijah at navare pier. the guys on the pier were sick.
