Has anyone every tried it for bait. I only want to hear about personal trial, not secondhand information or stories. Picture evidence would also be nice.

Mark I was contemplating the same thing..the other day I fished a freshwater canal for the first time in years and saw lots of 10-20lb grass carp and thought it would make a great bait. Have you ever had any luck catching them on rod and reel? I tried canned kernel corn but they didn't respond.

I thought about the same thing. I wonder if freshwater fish would work. Ive used bluegills in Pass a grille but only caught catfish.

all the grass carp in south florida are triploid (sterile).

South florida does not have common carp and mirror carp like the rest of the country.

I used tp catch them all the time amd release them pretty good fight on light stuff and use bread balls or a whole slice and a small hook thread the bread and throw in front of them they'll hit it

There are other species of carp in South Florida besides the triploid grass carp. Like the bighead carp, wild-type and fancy type goldfish. Not sure about bighead carp, but goldfish are illegal for bait unless they came from pepperidge farms  . Personally I have seen massive carp ranging from 20-50lbs in different canals.

Not according to this http://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/factshee ... ciesID=551

They are a medium-high level rate and I have seen other carps in areas like Davie that are definitely not the triploid grass carps.

Ah ok didn't know that...only thought they were found in the Mississippi and Ohio river basins...

You can keep bigheads...kill them all, those suckers are nasty fish and can wipe out a food source in no time

Grass carp (center) and bighead (bottom)
