Can I Do Better?

So I found a sweet looking 14/0 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Penn-Senator-14 ... fresh=true

I have the guy talked down to 450 on just the reel, but that seems to be as low as I can go. It seems to be in fantastic condition, and it says never fished, but still I am buying it used without a box for close to what I could get a new one for. Also, it is missing one of the rod brace assemblies. Do you think if I could get him to take off $30 (for what I'd pay to replace the brace) that it would be worth it? Or should I stick to my guns and say $400+ shipping and not budge? Thanks for any and all input. If I don't get this one I will probably post a WTB ad on here fairly soon if another deal goes through (but not counting my chickens before they hatch). :D

Buy a used 14/0 off Craigslist or on the forum, get a old school chrome spool. Get one with no line for $300-350.

2 Things In my own opinion.

#1: 450$ is to much...i say this not knowing what a new one even costs. BUT having said that some people are not in the bad financial situation i am in. So if cash is no problem then i say cost is no problem if it looks new and you want it get it. BUT read #2

#2: NEVER buy any reel because it has line already on it. Again In my own opinion buying a reel an with line is ok but paying extra because it has line is a waste of money.
The way i think of this is, HOW will i feel if a big shark strips off 3/4 of the spool and low and behold OMG there goes a huge fray screaming out the guides,- in the "New" line i just bought.

I will be kicking my own ass for the rest of the week.

PS: Penn man since 1970 and will continue to be a Penn man till the day i die.

Have fun in the Sun my friend.......I need to get back out more.

^Seems like sound wisdom. I definitely did not count on using the line, it would just make me too nervous not having seen it go on and not knowing what is underneath. And I think the guy expects to profit from already having line on it. Believe me I am in no great financial situation, especially while in college, but I am reaaallllyy tempted to wait a while and save up the $500 for a new one. There is a lot to be said for not having to worry about missing or broken parts. Not to mention no scratches unless I'm the one that puts them there. This is gonna get expensive though, considering $500 for the reel, $100 for the line, $200 for a rod, whatever a drag upgrade costs... Might have to give in and sell one of my 9/0's. Thanks for the advice though, I'm definitely gonna skip this one.
